Happy, Happy, Happy

**Chick update: sadly, she passed away during the night. This is why we bought 5 chicks when we really only want 3.

Daphne is not having surgery right now!

Her doctor decided to fit her with some custom-made braces, have her wear them for 6 months, and then decide about surgery once those 6 months are up. The braces will be sort of like the shoes, except made specifically for her so that they won't fall off. I'm just happy to be staying out of the hospital for now.

We got Daphne some new friends today. We went down to Grandpa Roth's work and got her 5 little chicks.

She's looking forward to gathering eggs every morning.

One of the chicks was running around and ran into the side of their container. Now she's walking kind of funny and won't open her eyes. Do you think that's bad?

Would David not just take Daph out of the ergo so she wouldn't have to strain her neck? Poor thing.

It may be bad if the dogs eat the chicks.

That is great she doesn't have to have another surgery right now! Hopefully custom-made braces can stay on.

I emailed you some pictures from yesterday so check your inbox.

Sorry we missed your open house on Sunday! My mom said it was great and that Erin did such a nice job on everything :)

Brenner looks like he wants a snack! Mmm...lil' chickie nuggets!

Yay about no surgery! I'm sure Daphne won't like the braces either, but at least she can hold off on the hospital visits for a while!

As soon as Grandpa got home, I checked on how many Daphne got. I wanted to be sure it was only five, not thirty. :) David, you get sausage.

Sorry about the disfunctional chick. How is it doing? Is Brenner being a good daddy to the chicks?

I'm glad Daph doesn't need another surgery right away. Hope braces can be made Daph proof. We all know her history.

Poor chick. Hopefully no other ones will run into the wall and die. I didn't know that could be fatal.

So I heard that a feed store in Philomath burned their chicks when they put them in a plastic bin and put a heat lamp above it. Apparently plastic melts under heat.
